SW vs NX: 3D sketching sucks in NX

SW vs NX: 3D sketching sucks in NX

After nearly two decades in SW, I'k back in NX. I just helped a SW client out with an NX conversion. The model was easy plenty to do in SW 3D sketching. In NX, it required some awfully cumbersome workarounds.

NX is the 500-pound gorilla of surface and hybrid modelling. Absolutely dismal w.r.t. 3D sketching.

Too, proficient to see y'all Roland. ;)

Yes, @HerrTick , adept to see you here.

SE only added 3D sketch about 2015. It started kind of weak, but I don't accept any idea what information technology's like at present.

Hmmm...brand me wonder if y'all were using the right set of tools inside NX. 3D sketching is kind of a rarity. Only remember sketching has always been a second thing..In NX you would probably use a Studio spline or other tools like routing or constabulary curves and many other functions.
Can you lot share and image?

It'southward really difficult to make a comparision of these two products. 1 is mid-range CAD SW and the NX is high-end design and applied science solution suite.

If you want to brand basic prismatic shapes and such NX is not for you. If you need a system that allows you lot to practice multiple facets of design, simulation, manufacturing, etc all in one tool and pass data similar PMI across systems then NX is tool for your organization.

But pitting these two against each other isn't a good idea. They serve dissimilar customers.

No cream in my java.
No soda in my whiskey.
No automatic dimensions in my sketches.

I know what I want. It's faster to add it they way I desire from goose egg than to undo all the poor decisions the auto-solver makes. (Not NX-specific.)

Its the classic Hare and Tortoise

SW is a Dassault Systems software and NX is Siemens. They are dissimilar masters. Unless yous are defining masters as the user. If and so, y'all really don't understand the software vs user globe. ;; (dripping with sarcasm)

And so far, i'm not a fan of the new sketcher in NX. IT does things i don't want information technology to and won't do things i exercise. And in that location are oftentimes no obvious ways to practice elementary things when information technology comes to fixing or modifying a sketch to do what i want.

So for me, thus far, the new functionality is completely lost because as usual, when software tries to recall for u.s.a., it gets it wrong. Perhaps its early on stages and it'll get ameliorate but i really can't understand how it doesn't at least begin where the old one left off functionality wise at the very least.

As for 3D sketching... i'd beloved to see what it is yous're attempting so i could endeavour to meet what approach may exist applicable for NX.

Needed to rotate a line of fixed length about an axis until the stop met another line. Simple enough in SW. In NX, it involv3ed making a temporary surface to find intersection of line centrality and cone confront.

I plough off about all automated constraints and dimensions in sketches (in SW and NX). Automatic usually means someone else's bad decisions that I don't desire to live with.
